TEMPERA ICON PAINTING

November 2017

I made this icon painting on an intensive one week course in Tartu Art College. In the beginning of the process, a copy of the original icon, Archangel Michael, was transferred on a gesso based wooden board. The picture was then carved on the board and painted with multiple layers of egg tempera paint. The nimbus of the figure was gilded with oil-gilding technique.
