Window frames were restored on scaffolds

A replacement I made for a damaged wooden frame

Frames were scraped and sanded

Some details were reconstructed with mortar

The interiors were covered with plastic sheets

Some grained paint layers required consolidation

Finished result with restored windows and windowframes

SINEBRYCHOFF ART MUSEUM

Sinebrychoff Art Museum is located on Bulevardi in Helsinki, by the Sinebrychoff park. The building was built in 1842 and belonged to the Sinebrychoff family that is famous for their brewing company. The museum has beautiful interiors that were restored in 2002. The project of 2020 for Restaurointimaalaus MIMOS Oy included the restoration of windows, window frames and some architectural details on the exteriors.

The project was interesting and offered new challenges. The restoration work was completed on scaffolds outside the building and partly from inside the building. We scraped and sanded the flaking paint layers and repainted the frames with linseed-oil paint. Some deteriorated details were reconstructed with mortar. Working inside we had to do a lot of work protecting all the inner surfaces by covering the walls with plastic sheets. The inner windows were in a decent condition, so they were only sanded and repainted.
