CYGNAEUS GALLERY

In May of 2019 I got employed by Restaurointimaalaus MIMOS Oy to work on an old art gallery from 1869. The objective of the work was to scrape off all the layers of paint on the wooden villa and repaint it with the original colours. We carried out the work over four months as a group of four restorers, and I was named as the person in charge for the project.

My three colleagues and I removed up to 18 layers of paint by hand, working through the entire outer layer of the building. We then sanded the wooden boards and applied linseed oil putty to crevices. The villa was painted four times with linseed oil paint. Also a big portion of the buildings window frames were restored during the project.
