KOTKANIEMI - HOME MUSEUM OF PRESIDENT SVINHUFVUD

March - July 2017

I got the opportunity to work with Kotkaniemi Home Museum on two different occasions in 2017: with my restoration class at XAMK and on my work placement with Kymen Karmiini. The elegant house dates back to the turn of the 18th and 19th century and was owned by the former President Svinhufvud of Finland. The house underwent a large scale restoration and was reconstructed back to its 1930's look, as it was considered the 'golden era' of Svinhufvud.

With my class I conducted restoration on some inner structures of several upstairs' rooms and a damage analysis on the former servant's building outside. During my work placement with Kymen Karmiini I did interior restoration and traditional painting on the wall paper boards, ceilings and floors. I also took part in the window restoration. Most of the interior restoration work for this museum was done by Restaurointiosuuskunta Kymen Karmiini.
