TORSANSALO BARN
August 2017
As an aspiring restorer, I began my journey with a window restoration project from my parents' summer place in Torsansalo. The job was to restore barn windows: removing old glasses, cleaning the window frames, making wood repairs, puttying dents, re-glazing and painting them. I glazed an overall of twelve windows, two of which were large new frames and ten were old ones. I used mostly traditional methods in the glazing, using linseed-oil putty and glazing nails in the process. Despite changing the colour of the windows from yellow ochre to white per requested, I feel that the windows kept their old character.
